David J. Obedzinski is the Vice President of Philanthropy for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Alumni Association, an organization that operates on the Academy campus in New London, Connecticut. David has been in this position since January of 2011. He supervises a growing fundraising program that is working to meet the Margin of Excellence needs of the Academy and its Corps of Cadets through annual appeals, major gift and campaign initiatives, planned giving and special events. He is currently directing a seven-year Comprehensive Campaign, raising funds for thirteen distinct projects at the Academy.
Mr. Obedzinski has been working in non-profit organizations and fundraising for more than thirty years and previously held the position of Director of Major Gifts, Planned Giving and Capital Campaign Operations at the Baystate Health Foundation in Western Massachusetts.
Prior to that position he worked at the Hospital of Central Connecticut as its Chief Development Officer and Executive Director of Institutional Advancement. His professional experience includes development and alumni relations work with Southern Connecticut State University, The Easter Seal Society of Connecticut, Inc. where he was Vice President of Development and Public Affairs, as well as the University of Hartford and Hofstra University.
A Hartford, Connecticut native, Mr. Obedzinski is a graduate of Hofstra University in Hempstead N.Y. where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in sociology and Master of Arts degree in community health administration. He is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education and he's a trustee for the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, MA and a director at the New Britain Institute in CT. He's been a consultant to local organizations, a speaker and presenter at several conferences on philanthropy, local workshops, and has been an instructor at the University of Hartford's Workshops for Nonprofit Organizations.
David is a Justice of the Peace in Connecticut, serves with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary as a flotilla and division officer and resides in Glastonbury CT with his wife Linda and daughter Katherine.
